Dissecting the Feedback: Phrase Highlights in Action
Once you have identified a trend through the Dashboard (for example, you have filtered all negative reviews on the “Cleanliness” Topic), the next step is to understand the exact context. This is where the “Reviews” and “Sentences” sections come into play.
Sentence-by-Sentence Analysis with Color Code
From the “Reviews” section, you can analyze each and every review included in the report with surgical precision.
Upon entering the detailed view of a review, the “Sentences” section shows you the guest’s original text. The revolutionary aspect is that each sentence with a detected sentiment is marked with a color:
- Green: Positive sentiment.
- Red/Orange: Negative or mixed sentiment.
This coding allows you to understand the review in its full context. The guest might have given a high overall score (5 stars) and written: “The house was beautiful, but the microwave was dirty (red) and the check-in process was very confusing (red), although the bed was very comfortable (green).”
By seeing the marked text, ambiguity disappears. You know that the high score masks two specific operational problems that need to be corrected. This is the true power of Phrase Highlights: it forces you to focus on the words, not just the numbers.
Knowing you have an “Amenities” problem is a good start. Knowing that the problem is the old towels in the master bedroom bathroom is the path to the 5/5.
The “Tags” section is the list of the most commented sub-topics within each main Topic, allowing you to achieve this precision.
Identifying Specific Strengths and Weaknesses
Imagine you select the “Amenities” Topic. The “Tags” section might show you a list of the most discussed sub-topics by guests:
- Pool
- Bedroom
- Parking
- Furniture
- WiFi (Internet)
If you see that the “Pool” Tag has a high volume of negative comments, the problem is not “Amenities” in general, but the pool maintenance!
The most useful feature is the ability to click on each tag to instantly see all the reviews where that sub-topic is mentioned. This allows you to:
- Correct weaknesses: If the “Parking” Tag appears with negative sentiment, it’s time to clarify parking instructions or assign a fixed space.
- Highlight strengths: If the “comfortable bed” Tag is a recurring strong point, you can use that information to highlight this feature in your property description, showcasing the best of each accommodation.
By using the Tags, you move from a vague concern (“Should I renovate?”) to a specific task (“I need to buy a new lock for the parking area and upgrade the pool loungers.”).
